Boys Youth Tryouts!
The Western PA Youth Lacrosse Association (WPYLA) provides that the 5th/6th(12U) and 7th/8th (14U) grade groups will have A and B team designations for those associations that have more than one team in these groups. This season the Mt. Lebanon Lacrosse Association will be conducting evaluations for these groups to establish the A and B teams. We are lucky to have a large group of players in this age group, and it is the goal of the Association to continue to develop this group of committed athletes. We cannot stress this enough -regardless of whether a player is selected for the A team or the B team, the overall experience will be the same with the same group of qualified coaches and a full schedule. We are also committed to continuing the development of EVERY player in the Association in order to provide each player with an opportunity to progress in the sport and compete at the high school level and beyond. The purpose of this letter is to provide you with as much information as possible regarding the process.
These evaluations will be conducted by a group of qualified appraisers. This group will consist of members of Robert Morris Division I lacrosse team. The 5th/6th and 7th/8th Grade head coaches will also serve as evaluators, but it was our goal that the majority of the evaluators have little or no prior experience with the players in this age group.
We will also be using the US Lacrosse U13 Tryout evaluation criteria. These criteria are attached for your review. I think you will agree that in applying the USA Lacrosse guidelines and a highly qualified group of evaluators, we are sincerely committed to providing the best and fairest experience for all of the participants. As for logistics, the tryout will take place over four days. The first day will be an introductory day that will not be evaluated. It is essentially a dry run that will allow us to get everyone registered and introduce the players to the drills that will be used throughout the remaining sessions.
For logistics on the evaluations (time/place/boys with conflicts/weather), or questions concerning the evaluation process please contact our Boys Youth Commissioners, Sarah Bias – sarahbias@mtlebanonlax.com , or Pat Furey – patrickfurey@mtlebanonlax.com.
We will be outside unless we determine that it is simply impossible to conduct a tryout outside. If there is no snow on the field or significant rain in the forecast, we will most likely be outside -even if it’s cold. Please have your player dressed accordingly. We will let everyone know the location for those days as soon as possible based upon the weather forecast, etc. Please check your email in the afternoon on those dates. We have rain dates available to accommodate the final outdoor session.
It is expected that every player will attend ALL four of the tryout sessions. If there are extenuating circumstances that will limit a player’s participation, please let one of the Boys youth commissioners know and I will provide this information to the evaluators. However, our expectation is that by providing you with this schedule well in advance, everyone can cooperate with rides and plan accordingly.
Also attached are the draft workout plans for each day. We realize that a lot of this lingo may not· mean much to you, but we are sure the boys know what a lot of these terms mean. We will also cover them in the first intro day. These plans may change slightly, but this should give everyone an idea of what to expect.
As you can see, we have and will continue to put a lot of time and attention into this process so that we can ensure the best possible experience for each player.
